Program menu items:


  • "Load Project" - opens the settings form

  • "New Project" - creates a new blank database;
    In this version (15Jan2001), the "New Project" item is not enabled
    To start a new project do the following steps:

    1. Download from the Syngraph site the file called "syngraphblankdb.exe"
    2. Rename the file
    3. Open the file with the item "Load Project" from the "Program menu"
  • "End" - saves the settings and quits Syngraph

    • Tools menu items:


  • Refresh display (Ctrl+R) - redraws the graphic display

  • Grid (Ctrl+G [toogle]) - displays or hides horizontal guide lines in the graphic display

  • Relation tags (Ctrl+T [toogle]) - displays or hides numbered tags on the relations links in the graphic display

  • Show reference hyperlink (Ctrl+H [toogle]) - underlines the references in the graphic display indicating a hyperlink to detailed reference information

  • Show color manager (Ctrl+M) - displays or hides the color manager window

    •      Statistics menu items:


  • "Show counts" - opens the Statistics window

    •      Display menu items:


  • "Left side relations" - draws or hides the relations on the left side of the taxon name block (i.e. synonymies, homonymies, and determinations)

  • "Right side relations" - draws or hides the relations on the right side of the taxon name block (i.e. pro parte, misidentifications, and non)

  • "Name adjectives" - draws or hides adjectives

  • "Unpublished opinions" - displays or hides unpublished opinions

  • "Restrained list of names"/"Full list of names" - allows the user to select from the complete list of names the "Full list of names" or a "Restrained list of names" -- only those that are original descriptions or are linked in relations or are associated with adjectives


    Note:
    - the list of synonyms cannot be edited in the "Restrained list of names" mode
    - the mode, restrained or full, in which the synonym list is running is indicated in the caption of the Display window.

    • Database menu items:


  • "Create a new synonym list" - opens the Add name to the synonym list window with the option "Add entry as senior name" active. Use this window to start a new synonym list.

  • "Manage synonym list" - opens the window of Synonym list manager. It can be used to merge two or more synonym lists, but is not enabled in this version (15Jan2001)

  • "Add or edit taxa in the database" - opens Add new taxa in the database window

    Note:
    - if no current reference is set, References window will open: search for the reference for which you want to enter records and then click on the button "Add new taxa"

  • "Add or edit adjectives" - opens the entry form for adjectives

  • "Add or edit references" - opens the entry form for references

  • "Add or edit authors" - opens the entry form for authors

  • "Add or edit journals" - opens the entry form for journals

    •      Window menu items:


  • "Search form (Ctrl+S)" - opens the "Search synonym" form

  • "Entry form (Ctrl+E)" - opens the entry form for synonym names, and their relations and adjectives

  • "Synonym display (Ctrl+D)" - opens the synonym displays


    Note:
    - these items are enabled or not in relation with the operations in Syngraph

    • Help menu items:
  • "Index (F1)" - opens the help window

  • "Help preferences" - allows the user to set the path of the help file:

     1. "Help online" - opens the help files that reside on the Syngraph Internet site (http://web.nhm.ukans.edu/inverts/syngraph/index.htm)
    2. "Help on hard disk" - uses help from a folder resident on the user's hard disk (indicate the path using the "Load Project" menu item -> Settings window)

  • "About (F2)" - opens the logo window
