The museum's exhibits are housed in Dyche Hall, on the main campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Dyche Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as are four other buildings on campus. Please see the links below for more information about visiting us.

Admission

The Museum has a suggested contribution. Your contributions help fund public programs, including public science events and exhibitions. Thank you for your support.

$5.00 -- Adults
$3.00 -- Children ages 6-18, seniors
Free -- Museum members; KU Students, staff and faculty; children under age 6.

How To Find Us

Lawrence is located in northeastern Kansas, just 45 minutes from downtown Kansas City, MO and 30 minutes from Topeka, KS. The Natural History Museum is located on the University of Kansas campus in Dyche Hall just six short blocks from downtown Lawrence. A detailed map with parking information is available.

Accessibility


The Museum is wheelchair accessible and encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its activities. If you have special needs contact the museum at (785) 864-4450 or 4455 and every effort will be made to accommodate your requests.

*Guests with wheelchairs, strollers, or limited mobility can be dropped off in front of the museum.
*The ground-level entrance is north of the main entrance.
*The museum has one manual wheelchair. It is available free of charge on a first come, first served basis.
*All exhibitions are accessible. Elevators are located at the north end of the museum and a lift is available for the fifth floor exhibit.
*Restrooms are available on the third and fifth floors and water fountains are available on the third and sixth floors.
*Teletype users should call the Kansas Relay Center at 711 or 1-800-766-3777 and a message will be relayed to the museum.

Museum Activities


Educational Programs


The museum offers a range of science programs for schools, families, and youth. For additional information please visit the Public Education website or call (785) 864-4173.

Visitor Activities

Pick up a scavenger hunt or self-guided tour at the Museum’s Visitor Information Desk located just inside the main entrance. Scavenger Hunts can also be downloaded online.

Highlight Tours

Coming this Fall! Get the inside scoop on Dyche Hall and some of the fascinating objects on display at the Museum. Tours last approximately 30 minutes and are appropriate for high school and adult audiences. Reservations are required three weeks in advance and tours are limited to groups of up to twenty people. To request a tour, please contact the Visitor Services Coordinator, Tristan Smith, at (785) 864-2380 or at tgsmith@ku.edu.

Panorama Gallery Rentals

The Panorama Gallery is available for rental by University of Kansas departments and affiliated groups and organizations. Non-university groups may be eligible to rent the museum facilities, but certain restrictions apply. Groups using the Panorama Gallery must comply with all federal, state, city, and University laws and regulations. The facilities may not be used for personal events such as weddings, parties, or receptions. Natural Selections Gift Shop


The Museum has a spectacular gift shop where you will find a wide selection of museum souvenirs, educational toys, games, books and a variety of unique merchandise. Museum members get a 20-percent discount at Natural Selections.

Food & Drinks

Please help protect our specimens and exhibits by keeping food and beverages out of the museum. Meals and snacks are available next door to the museum in the Kansas Union when classes are in session. The Lawrence Visitors Guide lists restaurants and has street maps and is available at the museum.

Unless otherwise posted, you are welcome to take pictures of Museum exhibitions for personal use. Professional photographers are asked to contact the museum’s Communication Officer before photographing in the museum: (785) 864-2344.
